Infrastructure & services

A hybrid hardware and software solution built on a data processing and storage platform, bringing the capabilities of the major cloud platforms on-site.

The solution

A local cloud, compatible with public platforms

The solution makes it possible to obtain, and even extend, locally on Romanian territory, the functionality required and generally used by research, innovation and education institutions across Europe, which today is found in cloud platforms such as Amazon, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.

Its advantage is that, at the level of the research institution, it provides the same API interfaces and similar management interfaces as those available in public clouds.

Cloud features

  • Integrated high-availability solution (no-single-point-of-failure)
  • Redundant architecture for every element: processing nodes, Ethernet and management switches, hardware infrastructure management, management server
  • Minimum 40 Gbps end-to-end connectivity, from top-of-rack switches to the network adapters in the nodes
  • Automated installation, configuration and expansion procedures
  • Configuration policies across all components, including firmware and BIOS versions
  • Open APIs for easy administration
Services

Three layers of cloud services

Illustration: IaaS, PaaS and SaaS service layers
IaaS

Infrastructure as a Service

Provides automated and scalable work environments as virtual machines that can use part or all of the available hardware resources.

PaaS

Platform as a Service

Automatically provides the infrastructure applications need, and manages it.

SaaS

Software as a Service

Runs an application instance over the Internet using IaaS and PaaS resources, without installing software on each device.

Equipment

Novelty

Full IaaS, PaaS and SaaS coverage

The solution offers a user-friendly interface that is easy to manage and use, and a suite of applications that can be accessed at any time, as needed. Any compatible software developed in Europe or worldwide by a third party can be verified and validated for inclusion in the list of applications available in SaaS.

Although installed at USV, the infrastructure has an interconnectable structure that allows the use of the latest configurations and resources, now and in the future. It supports local and international development based on standards used at European level, and the sharing of resources according to specific needs, either punctually or over the period required by one or more research topics.
